People with criminal convictions

Jobcare also provides Community Employment places for people with a criminal conviction or who have spent time in prison. Established in 2008, our award-winning “Trasna” work programme aims to help people gain valuable work experience and training towards a positive future for themselves and their families.

Since 2008, 137 people have participated in our Trasna programme. 68% have progressed to work. Only 9% have returned to prison.

Why Work Programmes?

CE or Community Employment is a programme of work and training for people who have been out of work for a while. Jobcare’s CE programme equips participants with the skills, experience and confidence needed to get back into the workforce.

We work with a diverse range of people who engage in our work programmes, each with a different story, different employment experience, different challenges and different strengths. People find themselves unemployed for many reasons: loss of confidence after redundancy, a change in career direction that requires re-training and experience, time out of the workforce due to caring for children or elderly relatives, health problems, personal difficulties and a range of other challenges. Engaging with our work programme provides a caring and supportive environment as individuals take practical measures to bring about positive change for themselves and their families.

Our CE participants benefit from real roles in a structured framework within which they can take the necessary steps to progress to their next employment goal. Because working matters!

Work programme graduates said:

“I know Jobcare helps people overcome their barriers to work and provides training and support to secure appropriate work. And Jobcare has certainly done that for me. But, for me, Jobcare gives people three things- you all bring hope, you give people much-needed courage, and you give us shelter from the storm at a time when we really need it.”

“I want to put on record my deep appreciation for everything I received in Jobcare. I knew I wasn’t finished with paid employment but trying to persuade prospective employers of my value had proved difficult. Jobcare gave me the confidence that I could still add value somewhere.”

“Since I started in Jobcare until now I have had a roller coaster of a journey. I have learned and grown so much. I thank each and every one of you for teaching and inspiring me. I am now moving on to write my next chapter. I’m excited about the future while I continue to be excited about all the things Jobcare will continue to accomplish here with all the hard work of all the great staff who work here! It has been an absolute honour!”
